The directive was issued by the Minister of Communications, Dr. Isa Pantami, on Sunday.

MTN had sent a message to its mobile users that with effect from October 21, 2019, N4 will be charged on every 20 seconds spent while using USSD access to banking services.

“Yello, Please note that from Oct 21, we will charge N4 per 20 seconds for USSD access to banking services. Thank you.”

Dr. Pantami, in an affirmation signed by his spokesperson, Mrs. Uwa Suleiman, asked the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to ensure that the operator suspends such plans until he is fully briefed.

“The attention of the Federal Ministry of Communications has been drawn to the viral text message allegedly sent by the Mobile Network Operator MTN Nigeria and other Mobile Operators notifying subscribers of a four naira (N4:00) charge per 20 seconds on USSD access to banking services from the 21st of October 2019.

“The office of the Honourable Minister of Communications Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami FNCS, FBCS, FIIM is not aware of this development and has hereby directed the sector regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) ensures the operator suspends such plans until the Honourable

Minister is fully and properly briefed.”

Uchendu, who gave the advice in an interview with NAN in Umuahia on Friday, said that over-exposure to such devices could cause dry and allergic eyes.

She said that the blue-violet light peeking out from the screen was potentially harzardous to the eyes, and could lead to long-term problems, including blindness.

“It’s advisable to reduce ‘computer vision syndrome’, that is, feasting your eyes on a computer for a long time, because of the rays that come out from there, especially an LED computer, laptop or phone,” she said.

“Putting your eyes for a long time on a particular screen is not good because it can lead to symptoms of dryness in the eyes.

“Read for a while, at least for about 30 to 40 minutes, then remove your eyes from the screen for about five to six minutes so that you don’t end up with eye strain.”

She advised people who used glasses, including those that did not have refractive error, to use anti-glare glasses, and as recommended by an opthalmologist.

According to her, such glasses will protect the light rays from coming straight into the eyes.

The ophthalmologist also expressed worry over the growing eye problems world-wide, stressing that about 80 per cent of blindness were avoidable or treatable.

She, therefore, urged people to consult ophthalmologists regularly in order to know the condition of their eyes.

Seyi Shay was no show, Teni didn’t appear on stage for the first two awards, Johnny Drille was far away in Kenya, Burna Boy was supporting Wizkid at The O2.

This brings up the question, Is Headies still the biggest award ceremony?

2. Regina Daniels’ Mum Presenting The Biggest Award Of The Night

In this life, have money oooo.

Because how do you explain a non entertainer who has no business or affiliation with the music industry or entertainment world coming up to present the biggest award of the night – Artiste of the year award?

Regina Daniels mum came on stage, introduced herself as “A.K.A Regina Daniels Mum” and also cracked a joke by saying;

“And the Artiste of the year is…… Regina Daniels.”

The organizers got this one wrong. Totally.

3. AQ And His “Fat Guy”

With the whole rap beef between M.I and Vector with M.I’s accomplice, AQ meddling in with a diss track to Vector last week, we saw an extension of it yesterday.

4. Poor Quality Stage Performance

While we bemoaned the absence of industry heavyweights like Tiwa Savage and Burna Boy who were at “The O2” to support Wizkid.

There were some “whacky-kinda” performances from those who showed up on stage.

One was Duncan Mighty whose vocals went out of range, Victor AD with questionable choir backups while performing “Wetin You Gain” and then we felt something missing when Rema was performing.

All wasn’t just right with those who performed.

5. Shocking Award Winners

Adekunle Gold not winning any award will probably be a shocker to many as people felt he deserved the “Best Performer” award ahead of Yemi Alade.

Chinko Ekun’s “Able God” grabbing Best Street Hop looked questionable too. The criteria of the award aligns with the artiste whose songs are inspired by the streets.

Is Zlatan not a worthy winner with “Zanku”?

And again how did Teni win Viewer’s choice ahead of Wizkid?

These wins are questionable.

We’ll, it’s “The Headies” for you and perhaps the last time we had a splendid Headies award show was 2015.

It seems the award has lost its spark, credibility and star attraction.

6. One Sided-Hosting

The 2019 “Headies Award” was supposed to be hosted by two people but only one did the bulk of the hosting job.

Nancy Isime and Reminisce appeared gorgeously on stage at the beginning of the show. As the show continued, Reminisce seems to have forgotten his “Oja” at home as he lacked the required spirit to compliment Nancy well on stage.

Nancy Isime was left alone to do most of the hosting job as Reminisce stayed backstage.

Nigerian Artistes Who Speak Bad About The Headies Are Hypocrites (A Must Read)

The Headies is the most pretigious award in Nigeria and till tommorow, used as yardtick for the sucess of Nigerian artistes.

Even though there are many faults from the organizers, most of these while still unknown in the industry were always present at the event.

Fast forward till today, Nigerian artistes are not only boycotting the event, they are also derogating the event with their choice of words on Social Media.

Most of these singers take offence in the headies when they, or perhaps their favorites refuse to clinch a particular award.

Almost all the big names in the industry are receivers of one of more awards from the show and they have visited either in person or by representation.

It is worthy to note that no artiste is bigger than The Headies, even Wizkid who is one of the biggest figures in the industry today was a receiver of the Next Rated award in The Headies, and it was one of the greatest highlights of his career.

However, Naira Marley’s assertion of Zlatan’s Legwork being greater than The Headies 2019 is very immature and the confirmation of such tweet from Wizkid shouldn’t have come from a big star like the Starboy.

Headies as the biggest Award show for any musical act in Nigeria do not mandate anyone to visit but speaking against the event shouldn’t come from any artiste if truly they aim to move the industry forward.

There’s no award show in the WORLD with flawlessness up to 100%. The Headies needs more support from Nigerian singers more than hate.

I hope one day we realize we are the ones who can project our own products to the outter world and whatever we call it would be accepted by others.

Two Fake SARS Operatives Arrested While On Their Way To Arrest People

Two persons have been arrested and remanded in prison for claiming to be operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad , SARS, in Lagos. They are Ikechukwu Victor and Emeka Ewuzien. A statement issued by the spokesman of the Lagos Police Command, DSP Bala Elkana, reads: “They were arrested on 29th October 2019 at about 1000hours. Operatives from Ifako Division led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Lasisi Iyunade, accosted the men dressed in black T-Shirts with the inscription SARS boldly written along Julius Kadri Street, Ifako, Gbagada.
